Student Placement for Alexandria Vernon

We welcomed Alexandria from Nottingham Trent Univ in to A14 for a week watching and learning in our workshop. Alexandria wanted to gain  practical knowledge of print to back up her Graphic Design degree and we wish her all the best in her future career!

A surge in popularity of lasercut duplex jobs sees A14 produce a series of impressively intricate multiple layer jobs…such as Our secret lab stationery and Space business cards…

Invited into Derby University Graphic Design Degree course by Tracey Allanson Smith , Simon set the 3^rd Years a Letterpress design brief. A winning submission by Danny Painter showcasing letterpress by A14 won him a placement at A14 to further enhance his knowledge of the processes.

We also welcomed Chris Perry into the A14 team as our estimator, bringing his 20 years of print experience to bear in advising our clients on how to get the best out of our niche processes.

Tabernacle menus go Europe wide!  Gmund Paper Mill of Germany liked a project we produced on their stocks so much they asked us to reproduce it for them as samples of how their materials could be used to great effect. Our original client Paul Jukes of  Vivid Design & Print in Brighton, who specified the Treasury Beauty stocks through GF Smith paper , was only too pleased to agree.  We are happy to report the’ Tabernacle’ menus holders are now being given out by Gmund paper to their best customers across Europe and the world!!  (see photos on our main page)

Simon continues the strong relationship with De Montfort University graphic design degree course with a lecture to the second years on how to give a professional print brief to a printer

Letterpress has landed ! we have installed our ‘new’ Letterpress machine – an original 1961 Heidelberg …which complements our existing foiling , embossing and diecutting machines nicely!

Simon has been invited to De Montford University in Leicester by the Graphic Design degree course leaders, to give a series of seminars on blind embossing. 

Attended by the third year students, the module ran for the autumn of 2009 term and included explanations of all the many under appreciated facets of blind embossing, setting a brief for the, to complete and the selection of a winning design. More lecture work to follow!
